The first Bellerose store opened its doors in 1990, right by the Belgian seaside, in Knokke to be precise. Fairly unique at the time, it featured an exclusively wooden interior, inspired by the typical surfer shacks one can find on the American West Coast. Rather quickly, more stores followed in cities like Brussels, Ghent & Antwerp. The major one being a flagship store of over 600 m2 in the heart of Brussels, Place Stéphanie. The adventure had started but Belgium’s pretty small, so our sights were set on our neighbors. Paris was impossible to resist, so we opened a store in the Marais, later on followed by more locations. Other major cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam & Lille followed too. Today we have 24 stores, spread over 4 countries.
Loosely inspired by traditional American drugstores, our first stores were created as vibrant, functional places where one could find nearly everything, from Bellerose clothes to fire pits and kayaks, plus a wide range of other accessories. After the introduction and growth of our women’s and kids’ range, little by little our stores evolved into concepts with more room for architecture, decoration and fashion, referencing the themes of our collections. Inside, we strongly focus on window displays & visual merchandising. Roughly, everything is presented as if it were a corner, be it our own collections, our selection of sneakers, our interior objects, our jewelry & accessories.
The interiors of our stores directly reflect the eclectic personality of the
brand. From a very feminine and delicate cupboard with vintage accessories and a romantic flair,
to a robust wooden tables and shelves, or smooth concrete floors and minimalistic lighting: we
have something for folks of all kinds and walks of life.
A large chunk of what you’ll experience stems from the creative dynamic between the brand’s
founder Patrick and its current creative director, his son Derek. Their vision is then brought
to life by a team of creative professionals. We strongly believe in true craftsmanship and
manual trades such as carpentry or welding. It’s the totality of our know-how that gives us the
confidence and expertise we need to open new boutiques and to update existing ones.
For every new store we start from scratch. We adapt to the location and conserve crucial elements of the building’s former life; be it a hardwood floor, the original walls, or a glass roof, only to add that signature Bellerose touch afterwards. What our stores have in common is the use of concrete, wood & metal, in different ways and shapes. There’s vintage furniture from all over Europe that we use for our checkout counters, tables and cabinets. We love the idea of stores that are truly unique and that play with opposites the way our collections do. They’re living and breathing entities, with their own community, style and mode of functioning.
